Ajay Balasubramanyam

I attended SPH from 2014-2016, and graduated with an MPH in Epidemiology. I loved every minute of my time as a student and was fortunate to be involved with TAMPHSA and the Epidemiology Student Organization serving as Special Events Coordinator. It was great to be involved with the student body, and learn directly from faculty, staff, and students. In particular, it was very enriching to learn from the international students, and work together on a number of projects involving clinical datasets, field work, and community service. I can't pinpoint a favorite memory, but I especially enjoyed our cleanups at Reed Arena (first picture), and loved working with mentors and scholars within SPH, Veterinary Medicine, and medicine to promote academic and research scholarship. Additionally, I was part of the inaugural EpiAssist class (second picture), which was a real thrill and privilege. My favorite professors at SPH include Drs. Jennifer Horney, Scott Lillibridge, Natalie Johnson, and Annamarie Bokelmann. They played a major role in helping me think creatively and clinically, by integrating multiple methods of analysis to help combat issues in public health and medicine. Their approach to applying public health re-ignited my love for medicine and integrating public health into my practice. As a current medical student, I hope to impart the motivational, dynamic, and inclusive teachings I learned at SPH to help enhance the care of my future patients. I am forever grateful for the enriching, dynamic, and inclusive interactions I had as a student at the SPH. - Ajay S. Balasubramanyam; Third Year Medical Student, MS (2018 - CVM), MPH (2016 - SPH).
