Laura Benavides is pursuing a PhD in Health Services Research with a focus on Health Economics within the Health Policy & Management Department of Texas A&M University School of Public Health. She is currently a Research Assistant in the Population Informatics Lab. Prior to beginning her doctoral career, she received her Master of Public Health in Health Policy & Management (2014) from Texas A&M University School of Public Health, which led her to a career in healthcare management. While working with a private primary care practice in Dallas, TX, she improved clinical and operational workflows and policies and oversaw quality improvement projects, EHR transition, and implementation of patient satisfaction surveys, which led to successful recognition as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. She was then recruited to work corporately for Baylor Scott & White - HealthTexas Provider Network to manage the PCMH initiative for its 75+ primary care clinics in the North Texas region of the health system. She has experience working collaboratively with ACOs and other health delivery organizations, which drives her research interests and goals of using data to advocate for primary care and improving population health in a continuously changing healthcare environment.
