National Public Health Week Photo Contest

Public health in action – through your lens!

Celebrate National Public Health Week by sharing your vision of public health through photography. Your photo could inspire others and highlight the impact of public health in everyday life.

About the Contest

National Public Health Week (NPHW) is a time to recognize the importance of public health and the people who make it happen. At the Texas A&M School of Public Health, one of the ways we mark this observance is with the National Public Health Week Photo Contest! This schoolwide event invites you to capture what public health means to you, whether it’s healthy communities, prevention in action, or the people behind the work.

How to Participate

  1. Spot Public Health in Action
    Look for moments, objects, or people that embody public health in your world. Hint: Professional equipment isn’t required - cell phone photos work great!
  2. Submit Your Photos
    Upload up to 3 entries to the NPHW Photo Contest Submission Portal. Include a brief description (no more than 150 words) of each photo and how it relates to public health.
    2026 Deadline: Monday, March 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
  3. Celebrate the Winners
    First, second, and third place winners in the Undergraduate, Graduate, and Faculty/Staff categories will be announced during National Public Health Week (April 6–12, 2026).

Contest Guidelines

  • Open to Texas A&M School of Public Health students, faculty, and staff.
  • Up to 3 entries per person will be accepted.
  • All photos must be original work - no text overlays or graphic edits.
  • Submit photos in .jpg or .pdf format via the online entry form.
  • Photos may be taken with cameras or cell phones, but image quality matters. Submit the highest resolution possible for best results.

  • Photos featuring identifiable people (faces clearly visible) require a photo waiver form at submission.
  • All entered pictures will become property of the School of Public Health and may be displayed on campus or used in school or promotional materials.

Photo Contest Rules

Before submitting your entry, please review the contest rules to ensure your photo meets all requirements.

Eligibility

  • Open to Texas A&M School of Public Health students, faculty, and staff only.

Submission Requirements

  • Complete all required fields on the online entry form, including:
    • Name and contact information
    • Photo title
    • Brief description of how your photo relates to public health (150 words max.)
  • Photos must be original work - no text overlays or graphic edits.
  • Submit photos in .jpg or .pdf format using the official entry form.
  • Photos may be taken with cameras or cell phones, but image quality matters. Please submit the highest resolution possible for best results.
  • Up to 3 entries per person will be accepted.

Human Subjects

  • If your photo includes identifiable people (faces clearly visible), you must submit a completed photo waiver form with your entry. Entries without the required waiver will be excluded.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be evaluated on the following five categories:

  1. Appropriate Connection to Public Health
    How effectively does the photo communicate a public health message? Judges will look for clarity, relevance, and the ability to convey the importance of the issue depicted.
  2. Originality
    Does the photo offer a unique perspective or creative approach? Judges will assess innovative storytelling and creative use of visual elements.
  3. Visual Quality
    Consider technical aspects such as composition, lighting, color balance, and overall aesthetic appeal.
  4. Engagement and Impactfulness
    Does the photo engage viewers emotionally and prompt them to think deeply about the public health issue being addressed?
  5. Overall WOW! Factor
    The overall impression and impact of the photo - what makes it memorable, captivating, or striking.

Important Dates

  • 2026 Submission Deadline: Monday, March 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM
  • Winners Announced: During National Public Health Week (April 6–12, 2026)
