Master's Degrees

The Department of Health Behavior offers two master’s degrees - Master of Science in Health Education and a Master of Public Health.

Master of Science in Health Education (MS)

This Master of Science in Health Education (MS) degree is designed to train and mentor the next generation of health education specialists that provide and manage programs through the provision of foundational and professional classroom education combined with real-world opportunities. Future health education specialists are prepared to work with individuals, families and communities to maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles.

The program is grounded in the Responsibilities and Competencies for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) developed by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC). Students completing the master’s program are prepared to sit for the exam to be a Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES).

Master of Public Health (MPH)

The Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Health Promotion and Community Health Sciences is a professional master's degree designed to provide practical training in areas related to public health practice. Along with coursework in health behavior, the MPH exposes students to the other core public health areas (biostatistics, epidemiology, health policy and management, and environmental health).
