School of Public Health Scholarships

The Texas A&M University School of Public Health (SPH) wishes to extend a thank you to the many individuals and organizations who contribute to SPH scholarships. Without their commitment, the scholarships listed below would not be available each year to students enrolled at the School of Public Health.

 

Scholarships/Applications for Graduate Students

Currently enrolled graduate students are required to complete the Texas A&M University Scholarship Application and the application found at TAMSPH Scholarship/Training Grant Application Portal. Graduate students currently applying to the School of Public Health with plans to enroll in fall 2024 will complete the scholarship application as a part of the application to the school through WebAdmit.  

Texas A&M School of Public Health scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis from December 1 through the final application deadline, with priority given to applicants who apply early.  The average scholarship award ranges from $1,000 - $2,000 per academic year.  An eligible* non-resident graduate student receiving a competitive scholarship of at least $1,000 for the academic year may qualify for non-resident tuition waiver.  (https://aggie.tamu.edu/financial-aid/types-of-aid/tuition-waivers-and-exemptions/non-resident-tuition-waiver)

*Non-resident distance education students who reside outside the state of Texas are not eligible for this or other non-resident tuition waivers.

The deadline for currently enrolled/continuing students to complete the university-wide scholarship application is Feb. 1, 2024. Scholarships for currently enrolled/contininuing students are very limited and will not be awarded until May/June.

Please review scholarship/training grant eligibility prior to completing scholarship applications.

 

Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded to current/continuing students through the "General SPH Scholarships" application and to incoming students through the Webadmit application for admission.

  • Amarillo National Bank Endowed Scholarship — Available to MHA only students in the School of Public Health.
  • BG (Ret) Michael B. & Linda N. Cates Endowed Scholarship — Available to MPH and DrPH students in the School of Public Health who are full-time Texas residents.
  • Chevron Scholarship — Available to Occupational Safety and Health students in the School of Public Health.
  • D. L. Strickland Community Health Development Scholarship — Available to School of Public Health Students interested in pursuing careers in community health development.
  • Dean’s Excellence Award — (funded by the School of Public Health, faculty and staff of the School of Public Health, and community donors) — Available to all DrPH, MHA, MPH, MS and PhD graduate students in the School of Public Health.
  • Dr. Ciro V. Sumaya Scholarship — Available to all DrPH, MHA, MPH and PhD graduate students in the School of Public Health.
  • Dr. Mark and Teresa Benden Scholarship — Available to MPH or DrPH students in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) at the School of Public Health
  • Environmental & Occupational Health Departmental Scholarship — Available to MPH or DrPH students in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) at the School of Public Health
  • Epidemiology and Biostatistics Departmental Scholarship — Available to DrPH students in the Department of EEpidemiology and Biostatistics at the School of Public Health
  • Health Behavior Departmental Scholarship — Available to MPH or DrPH students in the Department of Health Behavior at the School of Public Health
  • Health Policy and Management Departmental Scholarship —  Available to MPH students in the Department of Health Policy and Managment at the School of Public Health. 
  • James L. Alexander, Ph.D. Scholarship — Available to MHA only students in the School of Public Health.
  • John (Jack) J. Buckley, Jr. MHA Endowed Scholarship — Available to MHA only students in the School of Public Health.
  • Nancy W. Dickey Endowed Scholarship — Available to all DrPH, MHA, MPH and PhD graduate students in the School of Public Health.
  • Phillip D. Robinson '78 Endowed Scholarship — Available to MHA only students in the School of Public Health.
  • School of Public Health Development Council Scholarship — Available to all DrPH, MHA, MPH and PhD graduate students in the School of Public Health.
  • Scott P. Pool '93 School of Public Health Scholarship — Available to all DrPH, MHA, MPH and PhD graduate students in the School of Public Health.
  • Twentieth Anniversary MHA Endowed Scholarship — Available to MHA only students in the School of Public Health.

The following scholarships have different requirements and have their own scholarship application.  The scholarships are awarded to both incoming and current/continuing students through the specific application.

  • Brigadier General (Ret.) USAF and Mrs. Donald B. Wagner Endowed Scholarship Application —Only available to MHA students who have completed their practicum. This scholarship only accepts applications in the fall term and is awarded in the following spring term.
  • Jerome J. Congleton Endowed Scholarship for Ergonomics Application — Available to SPH graduate students interested in a research/practice area in ergonomics. The scholarship requires a statement of purpose addressing a specific topic to be uploaded to be considered complete.
  • John F. Boff Endowed Scholarship Application — Available to MHA students interested in rural health administration opportunities. The scholarship is offered in connection with the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals, a very strong advocate for rural hospital leaders and providers throughout Texas. This scholarship only accepts applications in the fall term and is awarded in the following spring term.
  • Joel '98 and Stephani '98 Bercu Endowed Scholarship Application — Available to MPH or DrPH students in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) at the School of Public Health, or MS or PhD students in the Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program working under the guidance of a faculty member with primary appointment in EOH.
  • Marcia G. Ory Endowed Scholarship/Healthy Aging Application — Available to SPH graduate students interested in a research/practice area relevant to healthy aging.
  • NIOSH Training Grant Application — Available to SPH graduate students pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety and Health.  This award does not carry a non-resident tuition waiver.

Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students are required to complete the Texas A&M University Scholarship Application by February 1 to be eligible for one of the following scholarshipos. Undergraduate students may be eligible for the following scholarships.

  • Pauletta D. Blueitt, '81, Col, USAF, Ret. & Odis R. Blueitt '82, COL, USA, RET Endowed for Public Health Scholarship — Available to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the School of Public Health who have attained at least junior status.
  • Shannon and Chris Glenney '96 Scholarship — Available to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the School of Public Health.
  • N. Gayle Schmidt Undergraduate/Graduate Scholarship in Health — Available to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Health at the School of Public Health.
