About The Office of Special Programs & Global Health
The Office of Special Programs & Global Health (OSP&GH) was established in 2000 as a unit of the Office of the Dean. OSP&GH supports the mission of Texas A&M School of Public Health through the following primary focus areas:
- Emergency Preparedness,
- Public Health Practice,
- Rural Community Public Health Capacity Building, and
- Public Health Workforce Competencies.
In 2014, OSP&GH created a cross-cutting, school-wide team of faculty, staff, and students to work together to develop an SPH Global Health Initiative. The goals of the Initiative are to identify educational, research, and practice opportunities; establish long-term partnerships to foster local capacity building; and prepare faculty and graduates to assume leadership roles within an international setting.
OSP&GH has long-standing partnerships with both the Texas Department of State Health Services and the South Dakota Department of Health. The Office regularly provides technical assistance on Tribal public health issues and concerns, particularly those related to public health preparedness.
OSP&GH is also home to the Regent’s approved USA Center for Rural Public Health Preparedness. USA Center activities focus on three core areas: training and education; community outreach and engagement; and evaluation/research.
